Rediscovery

In this body of work, I sought to find beauty in the mundane and the overlooked. The collecting of objects has been an inherent obsession for mankind; the countless museums and history books are examples that attest to this obsession. However, in contrast to these important artifacts, I took a hard look at the everyday items one family may accumulate. In these piles, dust gathers, bugs infect, mold festers, and more objects build upon them. The objects grow old but within that deterioration lies personal keepsakes, memories, and beauty.

I hope to express an abandonment and desertion in my oil paintings through both the technique I have used as well as the depicted subjects themselves. However, I do not hope viewers to necessarily feel this neglect personally, but instead to see a revived beauty within these abandoned objects and places that have deteriorated to "junk".
